Fun at Michigan Fiber Festival

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

This past weekend I attended the Michigan Fiber Festival with some friends, and we had a wonderful time.  We saw lots of fiber animals, including fiber-types of sheep, goats, rabbits, and Alpacas.  We took several different craft classes, and watched various demonstrations.  I always enjoy the dog herding exhibition.  I wonder why I can’t get my border collie, Skipper, to do that well with my sheep!  I learned some new crafts that I can hardly wait to show the rest of the Craft Club at next month’s meeting.

We were camping in a small tent for 4 days.  The weather cooperated until Sat. night.  Then the deluge started, and it rained all night.  I also heard thunder and lightning at one point.  I wasn’t sleeping too well anyway, but I could feel the water coming up through the sides of the tent, getting all of our stuff wet.  Not a pleasant feeling.  The next morning it continued to rain, but I had my trusty poncho, so I was ok.  My friend, MJ, couldn’t find her rain gear, but came up with a very creative idea.  She used the red-checked plastic tablecloth as her poncho.  She looked just like Little Red Riding Hood.  It was hilarious, with all the looks she was getting from passers-by.

Now it’s Tuesday, and I have finally gotten all of my camping gear dried off, just in time to enter the Michigan State Fair with my sheep fleeces, gourds, mini Indian corn, and dill.  I’ll keep you posted on my winnings.
