Hoof Trimming Time for Robin and Hershey

Robin, my 12 year old Quarter horse gelding, had his usual hoof trimming by a new farrier. He seems to do a good job, so we’ll probably keep him. In the winter, the hooves grow slower, so Robin is trimmed every 10 weeks. The rest of the year, he is on a 6-8 week schedule. No need for shoes, with the little bit of riding I’m able to do! So Robin stays barefoot, which is better for his hooves anyway.

Hershey, my little 5 year old mini donkey, has teeny sized hooves that I trim myself. I sharpened the trimmers, so will do that for her this weekend.

Both of them stand well for the trimming, and don’t act up.

We are all looking forward to spring. It is very wet right now, and all of the critters have to be locked out of the pasture, so they don’t tear it up. Robin, Hershey, and Dollie Llama do have a nice sand paddock that they stay in. It is not so muddy.
